About us

The IFB Institut für Bahntechnik GmbH is a specialised engineering company, which provides a wide range of services in terms of consulting, design, engineering, research and development for modern railway systems.

Team

We at the IFB have 40 experts from the most varied specialist fields. Our mentality and working methods are strongly multidisciplinary. We are aware of: Our success is based on our employees’ deep understanding of railway technology. Due to our high requirements on quality of results and flexibility when carrying out project work, we at the IFB have achieved stable business development over 30 years. We have also earned an excellent reputation among our clients.

Management

The institute is headed by Managing Director Prof. Arnd Stephan and Sven Körner, two well-known experts in railway technology.

Prof. Arnd Stephan is an electrical engineer and has worked as Professor since 2002. Since 2008, he has been the Chairman of Electric Railways at the Institute of Railway Vehicles and Railway Technology at the Technical University of Dresden. Since 2012, he has been the Managing Director of the IFB Institut für Bahntechnik GmbH, Dresden and Berlin, as well as the Director of the competence centre for high-performance rails and magnetic rail systems at the Technical University of Dresden.

Dr. Sven Körner studied Transport Engineering at Technical University of Dresden. He started his career at IFB Institut für Bahntechnik GmbH in 2013. In 2019 he was given proxy, and since 2022 he is working as Managing Director at IFB.

The IFB is represented at two locations: After being founded in Berlin in 1984, the branch in Dresden was opened in 1991. The IFB’s exclusive shareholder structure, supplemented by university partnerships in Berlin and Dresden, ensures that the IFB has extensive networking in the industry.
